Frettens Nominates Julia's House as their Charity of 2010

Each year, Frettens supports one local charity elected by all of our staff and we hold a variety of fund raising events for the charity throughout the year. This year we are supporting a very worthy cause - Julia's House.

The organisation was created and named after Julia Perks, a talented and dedicated paediatric nurse who identified the need for facilities and services for children with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses in the area. Following her sad death from cancer in 1997, Julia's family set up Julia's House, the Dorset Children's Hospice.

The original intention was to raise money to build a children's hospice. However, in order to meet the needs of the children and families more effectively, the charity chose to concentrate its efforts firstly on providing care in the families' own homes. In 2003, six years following Julia’s death, her aspirations were fulfilled with the appointment of two children’s Community Nurses to lead the care team. The hospice, Julia's House itself, was completed and officially opened in March 2006. Providing day care for up to ten children at one time, the hospice takes great care to offer a warm, welcoming and homely environment where the children can enjoy genuine quality of life.

Now in 2010, the community team has now grown to over 65 Nurses and Carers, and at any one time Julia's House is caring for around 90 children.

Frettens Solicitors are delighted to be channeling their fund raising efforts in 2010 towards this worthy local charity. See our news pages for more information on the types of things are staff are doing to support the charity. You may also like to visit the Julia's House website for more information on the charity itself.

I am delighted that a number of our staff are coming together to take part in a variety of activities for such a worthy cause.
