We are always looking for good quality candidates to join our progressive firm. We aim to make sure that all our staff are properly supported, provided with relevant training and given the opportunity to progress. This is especially true for Trainees at the firm.
Usually, we take on one Trainee each year, giving us two Trainees within the firm throughout the year.
Training consists of four six-month seats in a variety of contentious and non-contentious teams. You will become an integral part of each team and be encouraged to participate in team meetings and client meetings. We aim to provide feedback along the journey to qualification, as it is important for you to know when you are doing well and in which areas you can improve.
Carl Geary takes responsibility for managing our Trainee's development. After completing his own training contract at Frettens, Carl joined our Dispute Resolution Team and became a Partner in 2017. Each Trainee has regular meetings with Carl to discuss progression and future seats, as well as formal appraisals with the head of the team in which you work.
Ideally, we would like candidates with a minimum 2:1 in their undergraduate degree and who can show us their interest in the law. It would be great to see some work experience from a law firm. We like people who work hard, bring their personality to the office and put enthusiasm and energy into their approach to work.
What it's like to train at Frettens
“Real training is given and I was fortunate enough to have hands on experience which included attending court on many occasions. Towards the end of my training, I was able to see clients on my own and had my own caseload.”
Amy Langlois, Family Solicitor, qualified July 2016
“Each department I have worked in has allowed me to experience a diverse range of tasks (including attending court, mediation and client meetings) and has also allowed me to get involved with files and clients, rather than just administrative or menial tasks. I have also had input into choosing my seats and flexibility in how long I have spent in those seats, where possible, which I know is not always possible in large firms.”
Andrew Guilfoyle, Trainee Solicitor 2016-2018
