Hiring & Firing Seminar Success

Employment law experts Jennifer Maddocks and Kate Fretten from Frettens Solicitors, together with Lee Cooper, Managing Director of specialist recruitment agency Hudson Cooper, attracted 80 Human Resourses professionals to their Hiring & Firing Seminar on 14 May 2008.

Jennifer Maddocks says "The huge turnout at the event demonstrates the economic pressures businesses are under with many companies considering reorganisations. Other organisations are looking to poach good staff to strengthen their position and remain competitive. During the seminar, we focussed on some of the legal issues that arise when recruiting and dismissing staff. These included employing foreign nationals, discrimination, dismissal procedures, redundancies and retirement."

Lee Cooper provided guidance on best practice in recruitment and advice on retaining good staff. Lee commented that "the average cost to a business of making the wrong hire is 2.7 times the employee’s salary – it is crucial to get it right and hold onto good employees!"

Kate Fretten adds "We were thrilled to see some of the region’s largest companies attending, including LV=, Twinings, Sunseeker, Kerry Foods, Goadsby, New Look, Care South and RIAS, and were very pleased with the feedback they gave. Collectively, the delegates are responsible for over 44,000 employees within 52 companies in Dorset and Hampshire so we hope that the advice and guidance given at the seminar will have a positive effect for both employers and employees."
