Placements

We are a growing firm with ambitious plans and are currently investing heavily in the next generation of lawyers and leaders in our business. We are looking for two placement students to start in Summer 2022. They will gain a range of valuable experience working in a bright, modern law firm.

Who are we looking for?

We are a people business first and foremost. Our job is to make law accessible and understandable to our clients. An excellent technical expert who can’t understand their clients’ needs and clearly explain the best course of action, is not always a good lawyer.

Our lawyers are all experts in their field, but what sets our team apart is their excellent communication and ability to work collaboratively with clients and colleagues. These attributes are at the very top of the list of things we look for in our recruitment process.

What does the placement involve?

You will initially work with our real estate teams, gaining vital experience in property transactions that will provide a great grounding for other areas of law.

You will also be exposed to other areas of law throughout your placement.

Where will placements be based?

We have two offices, one in Christchurch and one in Ringwood. One placement student will be based at each office.

Training Contracts?

All placement students will have the opportunity to apply for a training contract at Frettens.

Whilst completing a placement at Frettens is not a guarantee of a subsequent training contract, it can be a distinct advantage.

The 12-month placement is the perfect opportunity for you to show us that you can be one of the key members of our team in the future. It’s also plenty of time for you to establish whether the way we work suits you, and whether you can see yourself working with us long-term.

What is Frettens like?

We are a progressive and ambitious firm and have worked hard to create an environment that is flexible, fulfilling, and fun. That's why we've been accredited by Best Companies, the research group behind the Sunday Times Awards.

Every year, we ask our team to anonymously tell us what they think of working here. The results and feedback help us to establish what we can do to improve the environment, working conditions and generally make people feel a lot more involved within the organisation.

Last year, we were praised for our flexibility, work-life balance, trust, communication and excellent IT infrastructure. You can read more about what it is like to work at Frettens here.

At Frettens, you get the best of both worlds. You get to experience a broad range of private and commercial work, but also get to know all of your colleagues in a collaborative environment.

We are a full-service firm but aren’t a huge corporate. We currently have just under 80 staff and believe we provide the best alternative to the large regional firms in the conurbation for both clients and colleagues.

What do you get?

As well as the opportunity to work with some great people and gain invaluable experience in a bright, supportive environment, you will also get:

  • £17.5k p/a salary
  • 20 days’ holiday (plus bank holidays)
  • Additional day off for your birthday (if on a working day)
  • Fantastic IT infrastructure
  • Regular social events
  • Free or subsidised parking

How to apply and deadlines

We want bright people and place a very high premium on how applicants perform in their interview and assessment.

If you are bright, ambitious, personable, and able to tell us succinctly why you want a career in law, then we want to hear from you.

Please send your CV to Catharine Snow, our Operations Manager, with a covering letter by the end of February 2022. csnow@frettens.co.uk

Interviews will take place in March 2022.
