We are a growing firm with ambitious plans and are currently investing heavily in the next generation of lawyers and leaders in our business. We are looking for two placement students to start in Summer 2022. They will gain a range of valuable experience working in a bright, modern law firm.


Who are we looking for?

We are a people business first and foremost. Our job is to make law accessible and understandable to our clients. An excellent technical expert who can’t understand their clients’ needs and clearly explain the best course of action, is not always a good lawyer.

Our lawyers are all experts in their field, but what sets our team apart is their excellent communication and ability to work collaboratively with clients and colleagues. These attributes are at the very top of the list of things we look for in our recruitment process.

What does the placement involve?

You will initially work with our real estate teams, gaining vital experience in property transactions that will provide a great grounding for other areas of law.

You will also be exposed to other areas of law throughout your placement.

Where will placements be based?

We have two offices, one in Christchurch and one in Ringwood. One placement student will be based at each office.

Training Contracts?

All placement students will have the opportunity to apply for a training contract at Frettens.

Whilst completing a placement at Frettens is not a guarantee of a subsequent training contract, it can be a distinct advantage.

The 12-month placement is the perfect opportunity for you to show us that you can be one of the key members of our team in the future. It’s also plenty of time for you to establish whether the way we work suits you, and whether you can see yourself working with us long-term.
