Team Frettens in the Pancake Race

To launch this year’s Christchurch Food and Wine Festival, a pancake race was held this morning, Shrove Tuesday, in Church Street, in front of the Priory.

The Frettens team was made up of Paul Burton, Employment Solicitor, Amy Leung, Conveyancing Executive, Holly Doick, Conveyancing paralegal and Laura Balmer, Marketing Manager. After a few practice flips with the frying pan, the relay began, with Frettens’ heat against Peeks Party Store. It was an easy win for team Frettens but the lovely ladies from Peeks did have full fancy dress and high heels, which weren’t easy to run in on the cobbled street!

Frettens were then in a semi final against Waitrose Christchurch, who were fielding a competitive young team that had looked strong in their heat! It was a close race, but unfortunately a dropped pancake cost Waitrose the race and Frettens were able to overtake and win the race. The final was against two other teams and Halifax strided and flipped their way to victory!!

There were also races for local chefs and for some of the pupils from Priory School. All proceeds from the pancake races were donated to Autism Wessex and Christchurch Food Festival Education Trust. The day drew a great crowd, local press and tv crews and lots of fun for all of those present.

“This was a great way for local businesses to come together and have some fun and raise money for a fantastic charity. We look forward to taking part again next year – watch out Halifax, we will do our best to beat you next year!”
