The government has announced that it will not extend the right to request time off for training to those employed by small and medium-sized employers in April 2011. Following consultation, the government is delaying the implementation so that ‘the right balance is struck between support for training and the need to minimise the burden of regulation for smaller companies’. There will now be ‘further, thorough discussion, scrutiny and evaluation’ undertaken.

Head of our Employment Team, Kate Fretten, says “The right has been available to employees of businesses with 250 or more employees since April 2010 and operates in a similar way to the right to request flexible working.”
