Frettens recognised as Outstanding place to work

Every year, our team take part in an anonymous employee engagement survey.

It is carried out by Best Companies, the organisation behind the Sunday Times awards, and forms one of the most important parts of the firm’s business growth strategy.

This year, we gained our highest ever score and have been recognised as an outstanding workplace, the second-highest grading.

Best Law Firm to Work At

“To be recognised as a leading employer is excellent, however it is not the reason for doing it” explains Managing Partner, Matthew Fretten.

“We want to be the best law firm to work at in the area, and the best way to find out how we can get there is by asking the team.

We have carried out the survey with Best Companies since 2018, and every year we look closely at the results to identify ways we can make working at Frettens even better for our colleagues.

The reason for almost all of the big changes we have made in recent years can be traced back to these annual results, and it is really encouraging to see the levels of engagement continue to improve.”

Continuous Improvement

93% of staff completed the anonymous survey, which asks questions about leadership, management, culture, colleagues, remuneration and charity work.

Results have been discussed by the leadership team, and full results are shared every year with all colleagues, alongside the actions the firm will take over the next 12 months to continue to make Frettens a better place to work.

Last year, the firm was listed in the 50 best small companies to work for. Results for 2022 are due out in January and will be eagerly anticipated.

“It is all very well saying “we want to be a great place to work”, it is quite another to ask your staff to tell you, anonymously, what they think of the workplace every year.

This year, we saw significant increases in ratings for the areas we highlighted for improvement on the back of last year’s results. This is a trend I hope will continue next year as we continue to invest in improvements.

We have welcomed over 30 new people into the team in the last year, so I am extremely glad that they have all settled in really well.”
