Our quarterly lunchtime Forums are for those dealing with HR issues. They provide an excellent opportunity for HR professionals to meet, share ideas and discuss employment issues, as well as socialise with contemporaries and enjoy a light lunch together. Jennifer Maddocks and Kate Fretten open the forums with an overview of the legal aspects of the topic and then allow the discussion to develop.
In the first of two forums on absence management, the discussion at August's Forum focussed on short term absence. Persistent short term absence is the most disruptive type of absence in the workplace and accounts for the majority of workdays lost. We looked at the steps businesses can take to manage short term absence and reduce the number of sick days taken by employees. Our next forum will focus on managing long term absences.
