New ACAS Guides on Equality

ACAS has recently published three new guides on equality, titled: ‘Equality and Discrimination: Understand the basics’, ‘Prevent Discrimination: Support Equality’ and ‘Discrimination: what to do if it happens.’ The first guide provides an outline of the basics of what employers of all sizes, employees and their representatives must and should do to make their workplaces a fair environment and comply with equality legislation. The second outlines how to promote and benefit from the principles of equality and diversity and put them into practice in the workplace and the third addresses what to do if discrimination happens as well as covering the basics of dealing with discrimination and handling complaints. There is also guidance related to individual protected characteristics.

Kate Fretten, Employment Partner Says, "As usual the ACAS guides are very useful as a starting point. However, it must be remembered that they are not law as such and therefore you should always check legislation and case law and, if necessary, take legal advice."
