Matthew Crampton
Matt is a Partner in our Wills & Tax team, primarily based in our Wimborne office.
Work
Matt qualified as a solicitor in 2012 and has specialised exclusively in private client law throughout his career. He joined Frettens in June 2026 as a Wills and Tax Partner, having previously been a Private Client Partner at two well-regarded regional firms.
Matt advises individuals, families, business owners and landowners on a wide range of private client matters, including wills, estate planning, trusts, Lasting Powers of Attorney, intestacies, Deeds of Variation and estate administration.
He has particular experience advising on complex and high-value estates involving inheritance tax, business and agricultural property relief, property portfolios, investment assets and assets across multiple jurisdictions. He works closely with accountants, financial advisers, valuers and estate agents to provide clients with joined-up, practical advice.
Known for his clear and pragmatic approach, Matt helps clients understand their options and make informed decisions that reflect their circumstances, priorities and long-term goals.
Experience
Matt’s experience includes advising on complex and high-value estates involving a wide range of assets, including offshore share portfolios, business interests, agricultural property, buy-to-let properties, HMOs, foreign businesses and farming partnerships. This often includes detailed inheritance tax advice, including grossing-up calculations and reliefs.
He has advised on the preparation of a will for a high-profile individual and later supported the executors with the administration of the estate. This included consideration of potential heritage assets, image rights, royalties and related intellectual property matters connected to the United States, as well as advice on the trust contained within the will.
Matt has also advised a tax-exile client on their will, where the estate included a multi-million-pound crypto asset portfolio.
Play
Outside of work, most of his time is spent with my family, which includes his two sons and our Labrador. With one son signed to a professional child acting agency and the other playing regular football, Matt's spare time is usually divided between chaperoning one son to auditions in London and cheering the other on from the sidelines of a football pitch.
As a family, they love visiting Disney World whenever they can, and they are also passionate supporters of AFC Bournemouth. Matt has held a season ticket at Dean Court for many years and now enjoys following the club both at home and away, when possible, with his family.
