Frettens’ Commercial Property department have recently acted for REIDsteel on the completion of their purchase at Reid Street in Christchurch.

Concept illustration of how REIDsteel's new facility might look.

The 2.2-acre plot, situated next to the REIDsteel headquarters, was formally occupied by Peeks Party Store and Monkey Madness.

This expansion, which extends the company’s plot to a combined 6.4 acres, is set to allow the company to grow its business and ‘move forward with plans to invest in a manufacturing complex, new offices and staff facilities’.

Who are REIDsteel?

REIDsteel are a family-owned structural steel engineering company based in Christchurch led by a diverse and progressive management team.

They have been designing, engineering, manufacturing and erecting a variety of steel structures and commercial buildings including factories, warehouses, aircraft hangars, bridges and car parks for over 100 years.

They are a worldwide company operating in Europe, Asia, North Africa, the Gulf States, the Peruvian Andes and everywhere in between.

REIDsteel’s ‘one team’ ethos means every employee is valued. Safety and wellbeing are priorities.

REIDsteel on the deal

Simon Boyd, managing director of REIDsteel, said: “It was an absolute pleasure to work with the Frettens team.

“We were confident that the acquisition was in safe hands from day one and are grateful for their excellent support, which allowed this complex and important purchase to proceed in a smooth and successful way.

“We now look forward to moving on to the next phase of our redevelopment plans, which represent a major investment in our business, the local economy, the Christchurch community, and the county of Dorset.”

Continued relationship with the company

This latest transaction has strengthened our long-standing relationship with REIDsteel, and marks another moment in our association.

With this being such a significant purchase, and moment in REIDsteel’s history, we are excited to continue our relationship with the company and look forward to assisting them in as they continue to thrive.

Oonagh McKinney on the work involved

Oonagh McKinney, who heads up our Commercial Property team and was involved in the purchase, said:

“As a firm, we are delighted to have been entrusted by REIDsteel to undertake this large-scale matter on their behalf.

The purchase involved the acquisition of the additional site, which included the preparation of complex financial and property arrangements.

We and the client were very pleased with the outcome. It was exciting to work with such a substantial company, based on our doorstep here in Christchurch”

Our commercial ambitions

“In recent years, the firm have made a conscious effort to step up our commercial presence to rival that of our regional competitors.” Adds Oonagh.

“This change is best seen in our website rebuild, where a key aim was to shift the focus onto our commercial services; whilst still maintaining our individual and family offerings.

The REIDsteel transaction is absolutely a testament to our continued commercial aspirations and the subsequent growth we have seen both in awareness and work-in.

And this transaction was a great opportunity for the firm to show its proficiency in dealing with complex property deals.”
