Having used the apprenticeship programme to success previously, the firm brought on two new apprentices back in September.

Kira Slater and Matthew Raymond joined our Marketing and IT departments respectively, as the firm’s relationship with Bournemouth & Poole College strengthens.

In only a few short months, these new arrivals are already making an impact at Frettens.

Kira’s thoughts on her first couple of months at Frettens

Kira, who has taken up a role assisting the team with marketing and events, said: “My experience at Frettens these last two months has been very exciting.

The apprenticeship programme has certainly benefitted me so far, as I have been able to learn whilst getting experience in a marketing role.

The team here are very friendly and have made me feel welcome right from the start. Thanks again to Frettens for this opportunity!”

Kira was given somewhat of a ‘baptism of fire’ at Frettens, as she welcomed 80+ guests to our twice-annual Director’s Dining Club (DDC) in her first week at the firm - with our second DDC rapidly approaching in December!

Matthew on apprenticeships, and the team at Frettens

Matthew said: “Since my first day in September, I have thoroughly enjoyed working at Frettens. I think apprenticeships are an amazing way to learn and earn for those who don’t want the hassle of debt and the strict environments of University.

I’ve already picked up some great career tips and soft skills in my time at Frettens and am looking forward to seeing where I am in 14 months’ time at the end of my apprenticeship.”

Lewis Barr’s thoughts on Kira

Lewis Barr, Marketing and Commercial Director at Frettens, said: “When looking for a new digital marketing apprentice, we wanted someone to assist with marketing, events and other duties but, most importantly, we wanted a ‘Frettens person’.

Kira ticked all these boxes and more and has proven to be a great fit, diving straight into the start of a huge CRM project. We’re all excited to have her in the team!”

Jane Newman’s thoughts on Matthew

Jane Newman, who heads up our IT team, said: “Matthew has been a great addition to Frettens and has already begun taking on responsibility within the team.”

Matthew joined the firm in September, 8 months after Josh Kirby – our IT Junior.

“I think it speaks volumes for our growth, and subsequent increase in need for IT support, that we needed to bring another member into the team so soon after Josh.

Having an extra set of hands in IT has been great, and we see Matthew becoming more and more useful and taking on further responsibility as he continues to settle into the team.”

Lewis on the apprenticeship programme

Lewis continued: “I’ve always been an advocate of apprenticeships and see them as a fantastic alternative to university.

Having seen other apprentices complete their courses and successfully integrate into the team at Frettens, we’re looking to do the same again here with both Kira and Matthew.

Our continued relationship with Bournemouth & Poole College puts us in a great position to potentially take on more apprentices in the future.”
