The next cohort of trainees have joined Frettens, as the firm’s training contract programme continues to be a big hit.

The new faces

From left to right, Justine MearsBethany Pinner and Sevil Yildirim all joined the firm in September.

Both Sevil and Justine join us as trainees and will take the LPC route to qualification, they start in our Wills & Tax and Conveyancing teams respectively.

Bethany is starting with the firm as a Graduate Legal Assistant, in Year 1 of our Graduate Legal Scheme – a programme that we launched this time last year.

Bethany will complete her first year assisting in our Family team, and then move on to a trainee position in years two and three.

What is the Graduate Scheme?

Back in 2022, Frettens launched the Graduate Scheme with the aim to continue the firm’s growth and provide one of the best schemes for law graduates on the South Coast.

This is the scheme that Bethany is joining, with Justine and Sevil opting for the ‘traditional’ route.

The course itself takes place over 3 years, with students completing Year 1 in an Assistant role and Years 2 and 3 in a Trainee position.

In terms of benefits, the scheme is fully funded, pays a very competitive salary, includes additional time off to study and more. Making it a very attractive offer for legal graduates.

Although applications are now closed for 2023, you can find out more about the scheme here.

Matthew Fretten on the latest batch of trainees

“It’s our pleasure to welcome Bethany, Justine and Sevil to the team. All three of them have settled in really well and it’s clear that they all have exciting careers ahead of them.” said Managing Partner Matthew Fretten.

“We’re so pleased with the success that we have seen in bringing in young staff in the last year, with many graduates and trainees now on their path to qualification.

Bethany, Justine and Sevil will certainly benefit from working alongside this growing group of promising young lawyers at the firm that are either currently completing their qualifications or have recently done so.”

The new starters on their ‘warm welcome’

Sevil said: “Having completed a really positive week of work experience at Frettens at sixth form, I decided to return to the firm after university for my Training Contract.

The Wills & Tax team here, along with everyone else, have made me feel extremely welcome, which has massively eased my transition from university to my legal career.

I am excited about the challenges and opportunities awaiting me over the next two years.”

Sevil graduated from Bournemouth University in 2021, completed her LPC at the University of Law in 2023 and has previous experience as a legal receptionist at a local law firm.

Justine on her first month at Frettens

Justine said: “I have really enjoyed my first month at Frettens.  Everyone has given me an extremely warm welcome and my team have been so supportive.

I am looking forward to carrying out my training contract and seeing how my career will develop within the firm.”

Following her studies at Swansea University, Justine worked at Bournemouth County Court before joining Frettens in September.

Bethany on the ‘friendly culture’

“I am very excited to be joining Frettens as part of their new Graduate Scheme and am looking forward to progressing my legal career at the Firm.” said Bethany.

“What drew me to Frettens was the friendly culture and the opportunity to join such a great scheme with so many benefits.”

Frettens’ other trainees

When asked about the graduate scheme, James Privett, who recently started his second year, said: “Completing a year as a legal assistant before embarking on the SQEs was of great importance as it has allowed me to adjust from university to working life.”

Katelyn Webster, who’s completing her training contract in our Family Team, said: “As I’ve said before, the firm have set out a clear path in front of me, something you don’t always get elsewhere, so I know exactly where I’m headed and how to get there.”
