Kate Fretten, Paul Burton and Tom Lane of Frettens were delighted to join Barristers from Pump Court Chambers for a Mock Tribunal hosted by Bond Williams at AFC Bournemouth on 24th September. The age discrimination/unfair dismissal tribunal, adopted from facts in a genuine case, saw Kate Fretten cast as the witness for the claimant, Paul Burton as the witness for the respondent and Tom Lane as the claimant.
About 50 attendees made up largely of local HR representatives, witnessed a full tribunal with condensed versions of the evidence, cross examination and speeches. The audience got the opportunity to participate by voting before the official decision was announced by the Tribunal panel. The outcome, backed by the majority vote, was that the claimant was judged to have been unfairly dismissed, however the age discrimination element was successfully defended by the respondent.
This mock tribunal proved to be an informative learning tool for the attendees, whilst being an enjoyable and engaging event.
