August saw the arrival of three more Bournemouth University students or graduates at Frettens, adding to the recent influx of legal talent from BU.

James Privett (left) joins the firm’s Commercial Property team, whilst Zak Khan (middle) and Gregory Cooke (right) join the firm’s placement programme.

Zak and Greg will work in the Commercial Property and Residential Property departments respectively on a one-year work placement before returning to BU to complete the final year of their studies.

Ben Cobb on University Placements

Ben Cobb heads up Frettens training and placement programmes alongside Karen Edwards.

“Zak and Gregory will gain invaluable practical experience of working in a busy and dynamic law firm. The placement year in BU’s law degree is a fantastic opportunity for students.

They will be exposed to a variety of work and clients throughout their time with us. We will support them in developing both their legal knowledge and all-important soft skills before they return to BU to complete their studies.

A placement year stands them in great stead when applying for graduate roles or training contracts on completion of their studies.”

More Law Graduates join Frettens

James Privett (left) is a recent Bournemouth University law graduate who joins the firm’s commercial property team as a legal secretary.

James is one of a number of law graduates who have joined the firm in recent months in support roles, following Katelyn Webster, Philippa Rawlinson and Jano Omer, who joined our family, litigation and conveyancing departments.

Legal Graduate Opportunities at Frettens

Managing Partner Matthew Fretten on graduate opportunities at Frettens said: “There are now more routes into a career in law then ever before. As a growing and ambitious firm, we understand that the traditional route of completing a post-graduate LPC followed by a two-year training contract may not be for everyone.

We support a number of routes into practising law alongside the traditional one, including CILEX, CLC and the new SQE. Many of our most senior lawyers qualified through ‘non-traditional’ routes and started with the firm as paralegals, secretaries and assistants.

Part of our growth plans are to work with bright and ambitious graduates and support them on their journey to legal practice, whichever route that may take.”

What do the newest team members have to say?

James said: “I’m delighted to begin my legal career at Frettens Solicitors. It is such a fantastic opportunity to be part of truly modern and supportive firm.”

"I'm enjoying my time here at Frettens as I feel really supported. The work environment is also friendly and enjoyable." said Gregory.

"Frettens has been a great place to learn so far with friendly colleagues who have made the transition into practising law seamless." said Zak, who hopes to gain some practical experience in his time at the firm.
