To kick off this financial year, on 1st July, Frettens announced eight staff promotions; many of which within the busy property department.

A combined seven staff have been promoted to either associate, executive or paralegal with one member of staff stepping up to head of department.

The promotions

Experienced Lawyer James Hammersley has been promoted to head of our growing Wills & Tax department, taking on more responsibility in our Christchurch office.

James’ promotion is a good indicator for career progression opportunities at Frettens, as he has developed quickly since joining the firm a year ago in May 2022.

In addition to James, we’ve seen four staff be promoted within our Conveyancing team alone; including Natalie Neil who has moved up to Associate in the department.

Phoebe Gamble and Jade Baker have been promoted from Junior Paralegals to Paralegals and Laura Mabin has been promoted to Executive.

Lastly, promising Employment expert Chris Dobbs has been promoted to Associate and two people in marketing, Jenny Williams and Cameron Hearn, have become Executives.

Matthew Fretten on this latest host of promotions

Managing Partner Matthew Fretten said “As a firm, career progression is a top priority; so it’s great to be able to reward the dedication and hard work of our staff with this latest round of promotions.

We’ve improved on last year’s number of seven promotions this year, bringing our total number of staff promoted over the last three years up to 35; a really impressive number.

To be able to promote such a high quantity of staff so frequently is fantastic, and means that we’re able to recognise those staff who contribute and make an impact to the success of the firm.”

Quickly making an impact

Matthew continues: “This year, we’ve also been able to acknowledge and appreciate those who have made an impact over a short period of time.

James Hammersley, for example, only joined us in May last year yet has grown quickly into a key partner and member of staff.

And both Laura and Jade of our property department have received their latest promotions only a year after their last.

Overall, the start to this financial year has been an exciting one and we’re eager to see where all eight of those promoted take their careers in the future.”

Reaction to the promotions

James Hammersley (above) on his promotion: “My first year at Frettens has been brilliant and I am delighted to take on more of a leading role in their Wills & Tax department.

I am excited for my future here and keen to become a pivotal figure in the continued growth of the Wills & Tax team.”

Natalie Neil (above) has been at the firm for nearly 20 years, having joined us in 2005.

In Summer 2021, Natalie qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive and Fellow of CILEx. Two years on, she has been promoted to Associate.

“I have always felt supported at Frettens and am grateful for this opportunity to take on more responsibility as an associate.” Said Natalie.

“I’m glad that there’s room for career progression at Frettens, even for those who have been at the firm for many years. It keeps things exciting and fresh.”
